Important Alert: Stranger Danger

Afternoon MWPS Whānau,

The safety of our learners is our top priority. This morning, around 8:30am, a stranger approached one of our students near the dairy on McKean Avenue and offered them sweets. The Police are investigating and working closely with our principal, Mrs Naidoo. The student and their whānau have been supported by our leadership team, and we are proud of the student’s quick thinking and strong response.

We are sharing this with all school families to raise awareness, as this is part of a series of similar recent incidents in the Manurewa area. Our principal, Mrs Naidoo, and the Police will speak to all learners at this week’s assembly about stranger danger and what to do if approached by someone they don’t know.

Please talk with your child about how to stay safe. Remind them to:

Walk with friends or siblings whenever possible

Stay away from unfamiliar people and vehicles

Report anything that feels unsafe to a trusted adult straight away

We’d also like to remind all whānau how important it is to be on time for both drop-offs and pick-ups. School finishes at 3pm, and after this time, learners are not supervised. For the safety of your tamariki, please ensure they are collected promptly. If you are unable to be there on time, please organise someone else to pick them up or arrange after-school care. Being left waiting at the gate puts children at risk.

Thank you for your continued support in keeping our tamariki safe and cared for.

Ngā mihi
Team MWPS
